To apply for or renew teacher registration, you must hold a current WWVP registration.

You must provide evidence of your WWVP current registration when you apply.

If:

• your WWVP registration is conditional, contact TQI before submitting your application
• your WWVP registration expires within one month, provide evidence that you have applied to renew it (email receipt from Access Canberra).

Provisional and Full Registration

To be eligible for Provisional or Full Registration, you must have completed an accredited initial teacher education (ITE) program or a higher education program TQI is satisfied is equivalent.

Examples include:

• a Bachelor of Education
• a Master of Teaching

Early Childhood Teacher Registration

To be eligible for Early Childhood Teacher Registration, you must hold:

• an ACECQA-approved early childhood teaching qualification; or
• an accredited early childhood initial teacher education program.

Applicants with an accredited early childhood teaching qualification may be eligible to apply for either:

• Early Childhood Teacher Registration, or
• Provisional Registration.

Overseas Qualifications

TQI recognises:

• qualifications from accredited Australian higher education providers
• accredited Australian initial teacher education programs
• overseas qualifications assessed as equivalent under the TQI Qualifications Policy.

Academic Transcripts

You must provide official academic transcripts for your teaching qualification.

Your transcripts must show:

• the qualification awarded
• the completion date
• the duration of study
• completion of an accredited teacher education program.

You must also provide evidence that your qualification included at least 45 days of supervised professional experience or practice teaching.

If this information is not shown on your transcript, you must provide additional evidence from your education provider.
If your transcripts are in a language other than English TQI will require an accredited translation of the transcript along with the original.

You may need to provide evidence of English language proficiency as part of your application.

English language proficiency assessment is not required for registration where qualifications required for registration (or qualifications assessed as comparable) have been undertaken in English in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Canada or the Republic of Ireland.

If required, you must provide results from an approved English language test that meets TQI requirements.

For Provisional and Full Registration, acceptable evidence includes:

• IELTS Academic with:
  • At least band 8 in speaking and listening
  • At least band 7 in reading and writing
• an English language proficiency test and score that the institute is satisfied is equivalent to the IELTS test. TQI will only accept the ISLPR teas as equivalent with scores of 4 in all areas.

TQI will require a copy of your test report as part of your application. TQI will accept multiple tests from the same testing system type (e.g. IELTS or ISLPR). TQI will not accept a combination of tests across both testing system types.

Applicants must have completed the test within the last two years.

English language proficiency for Early Childhood Teacher Registration

For Early Childhood Teacher Registration, acceptable evidence includes:

• IELTS Academic test with:
  • At least band 8 in speaking and listening
  • At least band 7 in reading and writing.
• an English language proficiency test and score that the institute is satisfied is equivalent to the IELTS test.

Test results must be less than two years old when you submit your application.

You must provide a copy of the official test report.

You must be:

• an Australian citizen
• a New Zealand citizen
• a permanent resident of Australia, or
• the holder of a visa that allows you to work in Australia.

You must provide evidence of your work rights, such as:

• a passport
• a birth certificate
• a citizenship certificate, or
• a visa with work rights.

You must provide at least 100 points of identification.

Your identification documents must include:

• at least one Group A document
• at least one photographic ID document (e.g. Passport)

If your name has changed, you must also provide evidence of the change, such as a marriage certificate or change of name certificate.

(This information applies to new applicants applying for full registration in the ACT. If you are provisionally registered are looking to transition to full registration, please read the information about transitioning to full registration here.

To be eligible for Full Registration, you must have completed:

• at least 180 days of teaching (full-time equivalent)
• in an Australian or New Zealand school
• within the five years before your application.

Time on leave does not count towards the 180-day requirement.

If you do not meet this requirement but are otherwise eligible, you may be granted Provisional Registration.

Statement of Service

You must provide a Statement of Service from your employer.

The statement must:

• be on official letterhead
• include employment start and finish dates
• include any periods of leave without pay
• identify the employer or school
• state whether employment was full-time or part-time.

Teaching assistant, teacher aide, volunteer and student teacher roles do not count towards the teaching experience requirement.
