Recency of Professional Teaching Practice Requirements (RoP)

A teacher applying for renewal of full registration under s.51 of the ACT Teacher Quality Act (2010) must have completed 20 days of professional teaching practice to maintain their eligibility for full registration. TQI recognises that maintaining currency of professional teaching practice contributes to teacher quality.
This requirement is applicable to teachers who hold full registration and can be met by working for a minimum of 20 days a year in one, or any combination of, the following:
- Working in an approved school in Australia or New Zealand
- Assessing student participation in a government endorsed education service
- Administering government endorsed education services which relate directly to the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers or Australian Professional Standard for Principals or directly influences the content and practice of teaching in Australia or New Zealand.
Teachers with full registration who are unable to meet the annual 20 days professional practice requirement may be eligible to renew their registration, and will be required to outline their circumstances in their annual renewal application.
These professional practice requirements are assessed during each renewal period and calculated over five years.
Further information can be downloaded within the Recency of Practice for Renewal of Full Registration flyers.
