UC's Teacher Education Programs Go for National Accreditation

UC Renew Accreditation of ITE Programs

Getting Ready for the Gold Standard: UC's Teacher Education Programs renew National Accreditation

This year, the University of Canberra will submit eight Initial Teacher Education (ITE) programs - spanning Early Childhood, Primary, and Secondary - to the Teacher Quality Institute (TQI) for Stage One national accreditation.

Accreditation ensures that teacher education programs meet national standards and produce high quality graduates who are classroom-ready. It’s a two-stage process: Stage One reviews the program’s design and how it plans to demonstrate impact; Stage Two evaluates the evidence of that impact over time.

The STRONG BEGINNINGS: Report of the Teacher Education Expert Panel (TEEP) 2023 identified core content for ITE programs which covers what every teacher should learn in ITE to be prepared for the classroom and best support students. The core content reflects the knowledge and evidence-based practices that support ITE students in meeting the Graduate Teacher Standards and have the greatest impact on student learning.

The core content submission from the University of Canberra will also be assessed this year, ready for implementation in programs from the beginning of 2026.  As classroom teachers, your role in mentoring pre-service teachers during placements is vital.

Your feedback and support contribute directly to the quality assurance of ITE programs.   Accreditation also encourages innovation. ITE providers are supported to design flexible and diverse programs that meet the evolving needs of schools and learners.
