Hosting Prac Teachers? Check They are TQI Approved
Before any pre-service teacher steps into your ACT classroom or early learning centre, they must have TQI approval – it's a legal requirement under the Teacher Quality Institute Act, no exceptions.
What schools and services need to know:
- All pre-service teachers from any university need approval before placement
- Pre-service teachers should provide their TQI approval certificate to your school or service
- No approval = no placement (even if the university sent them)
Red flags to watch for:
- Pre-service teachers who cannot produce their approval certificate
- Last-minute placements without proper documentation
- Pre-service teachers claiming they "don't need approval" from certain universities
When in doubt: Ask to see the approval certificate or contact TQI at tqi@act.gov.au to verify a pre-service teacher's status. The approval is free for students, so there's no excuse for not having it.
Reminder: This protects your school or service, your students, and maintains professional standards. Don't let anyone slip through the cracks.
Every pre-service teacher placement starts with proper approval – make sure yours do too.
