Help Pilot The New Standards for Middle Leaders

The Professional Standards for Middle Leaders have been developed for use in all schools by AITSL in collaboration with the Queensland Department of Education to recognise the valuable role of middle leaders in schools, and they provide an important tool to support their leadership development and professional growth. The Middle Leader Standards are now available for use across the country, and it is anticipated that they will be considered for official national adoption by all education ministers next year.

AITSL invites ACT schools to join a pilot program for the Professional Standards for Middle Leaders in 2025. The pilot gives you the chance to become an early adopter of the Middle Leader Standards and will help AITSL to understand how they are being used in schools, how well they are supporting leadership development, and where middle leaders might require further support.

Who can take part?

This opportunity is open to all schools. Principals and school leaders may use the Middle Leader Standards to support the professional growth of middle leaders , while current middle leaders may use them for their own development and the development of aspiring leaders.

What would it involve?

AITSL will provide some implementation advice and suggested uses of the Middle Leader Standards, and you would simply need to use them in your school before providing feedback to AITSL about your experience. This might involve online surveys and an invitation to a focus group.
