Automatically Recognised Teacher Identified Professional Learning

In an exciting move set to ease the professional learning journey for teachers across the ACT, the Teacher Quality Institute (TQI) has rolled out the Automatic Recognition of Teacher Identified Professional Learning (ARTIPL). This initiative recognises teachers’ ongoing reflective practices—without the need for additional paperwork—making compliance with ACT registration requirements easier and more efficient than ever.

Why the Change?

Under the new ARTIPL system, teachers no longer need to log written reflections for certain professional learning activities. Instead, these activities are automatically verified by a school-based delegate and recorded in the TQI portal. This system honours teachers’ intellectual contributions while streamlining the process, aligning with TQI’s “right-touch” regulatory approach that focuses on high standards with minimal administrative load.

“This initiative reinforces the value and professionalism of ACT teachers, acknowledging their reflective work without unnecessary duplication,” said a TQI representative. “It’s about recognising teachers as true professionals and partners in education.”

How it Works

Each year, teachers engage in a professional conversation with their verification delegate. During this discussion, the delegate will review evidence of activities such as Formal Academic Study, Action Research, Coaching, and others. These ARTIPL activities will then be automatically entered into the teacher’s TQI PL profile, fulfilling required PL hours without additional reflections being required.

Benefits for Teachers

This innovative system allows teachers to focus on growth and impact rather than paperwork. For early-career teachers and those who take on mentoring, supervision, or specialised case management roles, ARTIPL acknowledges the professional learning embedded in these essential contributions.

Building a Collaborative Culture

By reducing repetitive documentation and allowing employers to verify hours based on authentic practice, ARTIPL fosters trust and respect between teachers, employers, and the TQI. The move strengthens professional learning by integrating it naturally into teachers’ roles, creating a collaborative culture that prioritises real impact on teaching and learning.
