How to request a Permit to Teach to support your staffing needs during times of workforce pressures.

If a school has a vacant teaching role and has not been able to find a registered teacher to fill it, they may request a Permit to Teach which will enable someone who does not meet eligibility requirements for registration, or who is a Pre-service Teacher in their final year or final semester of Initial Teacher Education, to fill that role.

  1. The employer completes a request form and submits it to TQI.
  2. TQI assesses the request from the employer and, if eligible, the applicant will be sent an invitation and instructions to apply. The application is through a form which will be made available to the applicant via the TQI portal.
  3. TQI assess the application and provides notification if the Permit to Teach is granted.

Note: A Permit to Teach is not a registration category, but it is an approval to teach in specified ACT schools under limited conditions.
