How to request a Permit to Teach to support your staffing needs during times of workforce pressures.
If a school has a vacant teaching role and has not been able to find a registered teacher to fill it, they may request a Permit to Teach which will enable someone who does not meet eligibility requirements for registration, or who is a Pre-service Teacher in their final year or final semester of Initial Teacher Education, to fill that role.
- The employer completes a request form and submits it to TQI.
- TQI assesses the request from the employer and, if eligible, the applicant will be sent an invitation and instructions to apply. The application is through a form which will be made available to the applicant via the TQI portal.
- TQI assess the application and provides notification if the Permit to Teach is granted.
Note: A Permit to Teach is not a registration category, but it is an approval to teach in specified ACT schools under limited conditions.
