Teachers are respected members of our community, coming from diverse backgrounds and experiences to inspire, educate and support young people.
All teachers in ACT schools must hold teacher registration with the TQI. To be eligible for registration, you must have appropriate qualifications. You can qualify by studying an initial teacher education program, which incorporates learning how to teach and practical experience in schools.
There are two initial teacher education providers in the ACT, with programs offered by the Faculty of Education - University of Canberra and the Australian Catholic University - Canberra Campus. There are also many Initial Teacher Education courses provided by interstate universities.
After your registration has been granted, you are eligible to seek employment in any school in the ACT.
