Do you have a current TQI registration card? TQI will remind you when it’s time to renew each year. We send out reminders by email so make sure that your email address is up to date in the TQI Teacher Portal.

If you are not currently a registered teacher in the ACT, you should apply for registration at a level that matches your experience and qualifications. You may need to provide different documentary evidence in support of your application depending on your circumstances. TQI will aim to assess your application within 10 working days of receiving your supporting documents however in some cases, for example where overseas qualifications require assessment it may take longer.

If you have completed your teaching qualification but have not yet taught for 180 days in an Australian or New Zealand school, you can apply for Provisional registration.

However, you can only apply to register once you have received your final academic transcripts showing your course completion date. These are generally available soon after results have been released. Contact your university's Student Administration Office for more information.

Once you have submitted your application for Provisional registration you will receive an email that includes information about sending the documents to TQI. You must do this within 14 days of your application or it will be deemed withdrawn and you will have to re-apply.

If you are currently registered to teach in an Australian state or territory (excluding NSW) or New Zealand (with Practising Certificate), you can apply for registration at the same level under mutual recognition provisions.

You must have certified copies of the following documents at hand before you apply for registration:

If you hold NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Provisional accreditation and meet the qualifications requirements you can apply for Provisional registration with TQI. If you are unsure of the status of your NESA accreditation, please visit the NESA website.

(Formerly Professional Competence)

If you hold a Professional Competence or Proficient Teacher Certificate with NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) (which means you have been assessed as meeting the Proficient level of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers), you can apply for Full registration with TQI.

Before commencing the application process for Full registration, you need to have certified copies of all the documents listed below to hand.

Once you have submitted your application you will receive an email that includes information about sending the documents to TQI. You must do this within 14 days of your application or it will be deemed withdrawn and you will have to re-apply.

If you have been teaching in NSW but are not accredited with NESA, you may be able to apply for Provisional registration with TQI. If you have also taught for at least 180 days in an Australian or New Zealand school in the last five years, you may be eligible for Full registration.

In many cases, it is the principal at your current or most recent school who will provide a report based on their observation and supervision of your professional practice and make a recommendation to TQI. We need to talk to you about your particular circumstances first. Together, we will determine which level of registration is the best fit. Not registered or accredited in Australia or registered in New Zealand with a Practising Certificate.

If you are not currently registered or accredited in Australia or New Zealand you can apply for registration by providing certified copies of the documents listed below and completing the online application using the apply button. If you are assessed as eligible you will be approved with Provisional registration.

However, if you have held an Australian or New Zealand Full registration / Proficient Accreditation within the last five years and have taught in an Australian or New Zealand school for at least 180 days during that time, you may be eligible for Full registration. Depending on your circumstances, you may need to provide a report by the principal at your current or most recent school based on observation and supervision of your professional practice. All documents you provide to TQI must be in English. If the original is not in English, a certified copy of the original and a version translated by NAATI or a government certified or accredited translator must be included.
